Can anyone help me? I have been trying to figure out Steve Gadds signature hi-hat, bass drum side stick paradiddle lick. Ya know the one from the Zildjian Day New York video. I have seen other people do it I just haven't gotten it yet. And can anyone tell me what kind of A custom ride Vinnie is using on the Alejandro Sanz DVD? It sounds like A custom medium ride but I am not sure.

I play this gadd lick,(well, kind of ), but I've never worked out what the counting is. It's hard to explain, so see if this helps or totally confuses.
It sounds like the paradiddle part is 1/32 notes on beat 1, followed by 2 beats of broken up 1/16ths. I'm not positive if this is the correct way its counted, but it sounds like it. Basically, the two fast bass drum strokes,( sounds like one bass drum stroke the first time through), are played at the same speed immediately after the last two LL of the paradiddle.
RLRRLRLLBB 'e' + 'a' 3 'e' '+'
BB is 2 bass drum strokes leading into and on beat 2, followed by:
'e' = sidestick
'a' = bass drum
'e' = sidestick
'+' = bass drum and hihat
After the paradiddle, 1/8th note hihat strokes are played on 2 + 3 +, which includes the + and 3 I typed above that don't have ' ', whilst playing the remaining crossticks and bass drums within beats 2 and 3. Where he later plays several of these joined up, he just plays up to the BB each time, but adds two extra LL after the BB and starts again.
I could be completely wrong here, so if I am, others will hopefully put the correct version down I'm sure
I forgot to add, he slices the hihat open on beat 1 each time.

Here is another AWESOME gadd lick from that same video that was taught to me by Dane Clark. (By the way, Dane Clark's a bad bad man!) This lick is straight sixteenths or 32nds.
R-lf-l-r-l-l-rf-rf
the notes on that are: (sn)-(lfhh)-(hh)-(sn)-(sn)-(sn)-(bass)-(bass).
I have a recording of Dane playing this lick in a recording session w/ a band called Resurface...it's VERY sick. Dane played it as sixteenths at 180bpm. It's ridiculous and sounds SO cool.
